| In Memory of Ruth and Harold Cheyne |

The stained glass window showing the three stalks of wheat and a wheat field in the background is in memory of Ruth and Harold Cheyne. The wheat was chosen because of the story of Ruth who gleaned wheat in her kinsman's field.
Ruth Livermore came to the First Baptist Church with her family when she was a child. She was baptized and became a member as a young girl. She married Harold Cheyne in the early 1940's. Harold was in the Merchant Marines and later worked for Standard Oil of New Jersey (now Exxon/Mobil) so he was often away from home working in South America or Europe. Ruth, her sister Hope, her mother Lettie and her children were very faithful church members. Ruth was a deacon of the church for many years and she enjoyed working on church fairs.
Ruth enjoyed doing special things for the church. When new pew cushions were needed for the old church sanctuary, she contacted her nephew Richard who was an interior designer. Richard arranged for the cushions to be specially made of a soft comfortable fabric and Ruth and her children went and picked up all the new cushions so there would be no delivery or shipping charge. All the cushions were stuffed into two station wagons and delivered to the church on a snowy Saturday afternoon.
Many people were touched by Ruth's kindness, her generosity, and her strong faith. She loved doing things for others and giving her time for others. She believed that things happened for a reason and that God was guiding our lives.
