This window is in memory of Florence and William Dill. Florence and William Dill and their 4 children, Albert, John, Dorothy and James moved to Mansfield in 1929. Florence came to church with the children but very often William had to work on Sunday. Since the family car went to work with William, the family walked to church from Branch Street. For many years Florence was a Sunday School teacher. She knew her Bible well and loved to relate the Bible stories to her Sunday School class and to her own children. Florence lived by the teachings of Jesus and taught her children to do the same. During her many years as a faithful member of First Baptist, Florence was a member of the Mizpah Class and she served as clerk of the church. She was a wonderful cook. She baked homemade bread several times a week and no doubt brought baked goods for special church occasions . Florence also grew irises in her flower garden and sometimes brought flowers to church to be placed in the sanctuary. The stained glass window in memory of Florence and William Dill pictures an open Bible, a loaf of bread and an iris. These are all very meaningful symbols for the Dill family and for the church. |
