The window showing an open Bible and a cross is in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Schuyler Wellman. Schuyler and Mabelle were married in 1928. Schuyler had been a member before he was married and Mabelle joined after she was married. They were both very active in the church . Schuyler was a trustee, a deacon, a member of the choir and an usher. Mabelle was a deaconess (Women were not deacons in those days.), president of the Fidelis Class, a member of the choir and a tireless worker on all church fairs.
Both Schulyer and Mabelle loved to work on church suppers. Many people remember them bustling around in the church kitchen, cooking, serving and cleaning. Mabelle was a great cook and was famous for her sponge cakes, which she always baked for church fairs, sales, and important events. All who have eaten them remember their heavenly taste. Some recall elegant teas that Mabelle hosted at the church. She was always a gracious hostess and a lovely person.
Mabelle was also a superb knitter. She created beautiful baby sweaters and bonnets which were treasured by those who came to the fairs early enough to purchase them. Mabelle outlived Schuyler by many years. She lived well into her nineties but she looked much younger. She and Schuyler committed a big part of their lives to the church. Through their works and faith they spread their Christian love and they are fondly remembered.
